Just came back from DC. I left at around 10am this morning, and got to my house at about 9:40 pm. Unusually (for me), I felt like stopping a lot, 6 times total (a reasonable number might be 4) a stupid number for this drive, (which I have now done 3 times) might be 1 or 2 stops. The trip is about 600 miles.
Glad I am not a trucker, because then I'd have to do it all again tomorrow. I don't even want to go pick up the cat from boarding tomorrow, and that's only 30 miles each way.
Anyways DC is awesome, Alexandria is sweet too (they had a torpedo factory). Maryland has the worst roads, Pennsylvania is the most interesting to drive through, because hills, and Upstate New York is boring, especially North of Syracuse, but I knew that already.
That is all. Pictured: Definitely not my car

We're taking our family trip to DC in a week. We leave next Saturday, the day after school gets out. But it will take three days to get there from Austin. We're making a stop in Atlanta to visit f86sabre. When all is said and done, it will be over 3000 miles round trip.

I lived in southern VA and made the trek home to northern NY (Massena) quite often. Man, the entire stretch of 81 is pretty boring, although not as bad as 80 or 70 thr Nebraska and Kansas.

Have fun!! Roadtrippin' is awesome and I enjoyed the ride, but if you look at the map, highway 416 makes the end of every road trip suck. Long, boring, no features, no civilization. Ugh.

Yeah 83 is more interesting, 81 is okay south of syracsue because of the elevation changes, but after that it is dull as dirt. Have a look on the map at highway 416 running north south near ottawa (should be on highlighted route). Most boring 50 miles of interstate in existence. There isn't even any gas stations along it.

I'll be flying into either Albany or Syracuse next month to head back and visit family. If it's Syracuse, I'll have that lovely northern stretch of 81 to trek.

As somebody who frequents Waterloo 6 times a year, I agree entirely. The rozzers are always camped up,looking for speeders, and it's especially annoying when they keep their high beams on, pointed towards traffic in the middle of the night.

I just looked where Massena is. Man, is that ever isolated. I have never been that far Northeast in NY state, I only go as far east as Ogdensburg usually. Kinda funny....I 81 is so empty in the north country...then you cross the border and are on the busiest highway in all of canada connecting it's two largest cities and many other smaller ones.

We need to get people together at Syracuse. Destiny USA has Gokarts inside the mall.

Yeah. You always think "Man I'm almost there...getting off the 401!!!" and then you have almost an hour of boring with less radar protection (ie other speeders) to distract the cops.

I've flown in to Ottawa and Montreal often, they kinda form a nice triangle with Massena. Dated a girl from Cornwall that moved to Ottawa back in my younger days. Going back this summer, kinda wish I could bring the Miata or the ST. Fun roads in the Adirondacks where my camp is!

We're actually driving to Norfolk first to see family. I-85 comes into VA then you have to take US 58 from South Hill. What a terrible way to finish a long trip. And the limit will probably be 55 most of the way. I'll be sorely missing my TX speed limits by then.

That does look boring.

Wait...you get to drive by a dismal swamp apparently. A dismal swamp you say? Kind of reminds me of Northern Ontario...where the interstates are really boring...except there is no interstate. But you are on a road, in a swamp...and it takes 26 hours to get to the other side.

Remember that the settlers who named it probably thought it really was dismal. It's kind of marshy, and full of mosquitoes, but there's some really good wildlife in there, if you're into that sort of thing.
